Hi everyone,
Please watch my embedded video below!
I chose to make a brief recording based on Alexander Lowen’s mind-body link which I had previously written about in a separate activity.
I decided to use my cellphone for this video recording. The only major issue I ran into with using my cellphone was the fact that when I was attempting to record with the overhead view from a first-person-perspective, the camera would often choose to focus on my hand rather than what I was drawing. Fortunately, this recording was the best of the bunch and I chose to use it despite the initial blur at the beginning of the clip.
Once my video was recorded, I chose to upload it to YouTube and add a short title. I wanted to try my hand at creating a video akin to the Udacity Style Tablet Capture with a first-person perspective (Hansch et al, 2015, p. 21, as cited in Woolift, 2015, p. 14; Mayer & Fiorella, 2020). This was the first time I have made a video like this so I enjoyed the process.
Best,
Carson 🙂

Hi Carson,
Awesome video!
Are you holding your phone in one hand and drawing with the other? If your were, that is incredible. If I had tried the same the camera would be shaking and my drawing would have become a scrawl.
I’m also curious what phone did you use?
Again, great video.
Tiernan
Thanks for your kind words Tiernan. I would love to keep making this style of video with a better setup. Maybe something to hold my camera/phone and new writing tools (i.e., markers).
HAHA! Yes. I had to hold my phone in my left hand while writing/drawing with my right hand! It was not the easiest of tasks but I think my phone uses image stabilization which helped with any ‘shakiness’. I am using an LG Velvet. As far as I know LG stopped production with cellphones so it was a last-generation.

Hi Carson,
I like this style of video. I think as you continue with it you’ll find ways to improve. I think you can look through your camera app and see if there is a fixed focus option (or there may be another camera app you can install that will have that feature). If you had access to a document camera (ie. an Elmo) that would also work well. Or it may be that a tripod would help.
These videos always work best if you are able to plan out the spacing and orientation on the document. A thin sharpie may make the drawing and words jump out better.
